NBA "Dream Team"

I'm just curious, if you could make up an NBA dream team using any players in history, who would be on it?

1. John Stockton
2. Reggie Miller
3. Michael Jordan
4. Tim Duncan
5. Shaquille O'neal

First of all, I chose stockton for the 1 because he is what every team needs: a pass first ball handler who can hit the open shot regularly. He's short and quick and will open the lanes for Jordan/Shaq, hit the PnR with Duncan, or find the open man in Miller. He isn't afraid to play dirty and is an extremely good defender. Although my list doesn't contain all of the "legends" (Magic, Bird etc), I think they would be the most effective as a team. what do you guys think?

blade you can post screenshots of you beating people like louie in 1v1s as much as you want (seriosly with your sound, set up, and stopwatch you shouldnt lose a 1v1) but it doesnt change the fact that he is 20x the player you are.

nash doesn't play D. garnett is very similar to duncan, i really don't have an argument against garnett. ray would be the only other player i'd have at the 2, but miller's defense is just too good to put ray over him.

lol @ these lists so far

1. Magic
2. Jordan
3. Bird
4. Olajuwon
5. Kareem

This team would destroy. Willing to put in Wilt for Kareem. I know Olajuwon was a Center, but him at PF would be solid as well. That or Bill Russell or Karl Malone.

I don't like reggie miller because do you really need a scorer like him? he's a bit scrawny and wouldn't match up well in some cases.

Also curious as to why you would move Jordan to SF (though he has played that position). Matchup wise it would be much better to leave him at the 2.

I don't like stockton that much to be honest. Sure he was a solid player, but can you even say he's a top 5 PG of all time? I dunno maybe. I think Magic and Oscar Robertson are much better pgs though, not to mention some of the others in this era that might be a bit more athletic (chris paul, nash, etc).

lol plz leave. Only player on there that might be capable is Lebron, and although he is having a HELL of a season right now, he hasn't proven he can get it done when it counts (playoffs and 4th quarters)

Shaq in his prime is solid, but I'd worry about weight a bit.

Garnett is pretty solid, but I think Duncan and a bunch others are better choices. You really don't need a PF that can shoot, but one that can manage the game more like a Duncan or Russell. Someone that is a winner.

Nash is a interesting pic and depending on the offense you are running could be pretty good. I still like my almost 7 foot pg tho. Gonna be difficult when Magic is posting him up loL

Jordan solid.

Ray allen? lmao. again do we need a scorer when you have jordan and all these others? This is the worst pick I've seen in this thread.

I'm thinking from a team perspective. Magic is slow and not a great shooter, especially from the 3. Stockon hit 40% from the 3 and 90% from the FT line while averaging about 10 shots per game, 50%+ from the field. Also, Magic led the league in turn overs while passing to a team filled with HoFers. Magic may be the greatest PG, but I don't think he's the most efficient. Having MJ at SF would cause fits for opposing defenses, seeing as how he's quick enough to blow by most defenders. Reggie was one of the best defenders of the 90s for his position, as well as being one of the best spot up shooters. He's bound to get a ton of open looks with Stockton/Jordan moving the ball around. He's at least a better spot up shooter than Bird. Also, lets be real here. Shaq would bull-doze past a 215 lb kareem.

i'd replace duncan with malone, only because of the chemistry he and stockton would have -- best pick and roll combo the game has seen.

I was also thinking of that. The only reason I didn't is because Malone is the NBA's all time leader in turn-overs lol...

Yeah but magic wouldn't need to do all that shit with that team. I mean honestly. Put magic down low, what is stockton going to do on him posted up? l0l. But I can see some of your point, in which case Oscar motherfucking robertson. Fucking beast.

I think turnovers on stars is a bad stat because they were bound to have more turnovers because they handle the ball more than players that aren't stars and force more shots because they have to. They wouldn't need to do as much as they normally would.

I disagree. I think turn-overs are important because they reflect efficiency. Also, I doubt anyone would be successful posting up on Stockton with big daddy Shaq and Timmy in the paint. They'd also be shooting themselves in the foot by limiting their ability to distribute the ball by placing their best ball handler in the low post. This is all besides the point- Stockton wasn't a bitch. He would take on Magic in the post like a champ lol.
